World Champions

For the second time I have watched England become world champions, and just like when we won the Rugby world cup I had one thought run through my head. "Why wasn't it the football?"

Now I am a 'multi-sport' enthusiast and like to watch all kinds of competition (including the curling) but above all things what I would love to see is a Football World Cup win.

But today belongs to the willow whackers, England are the world twenty20 champions overcoming Australia in the final (a competition the Aussies have never won.) To win their first ever limited overs championship.

After Australia were placed in to bat it looked like being a relatively easy task as Australia were held to 147-6 of their 20 overs to be honest David Hussey top scoring with 59 looked like the only challenge in an Oz team who although Impressive were not fancied for this tournament.

England however gave us a customary heart attack with Lumb going for just 2 before the very English (South African) partnership of Pietersen & Kieswetter put on 111 to all but wrap up a victory, in the end though it fell to Collingwood to clinch the championship and I am sure that no one would want to take away from him, so long a faithful team member and now World Cup winning captain. (And in some style as well.)

Now there may be some who ask how England can win a tournament with 2 South Africans playing such a major role, Kieswetter was man of the match, but these are conversations for another time. For now let me just say:

Well done England (and Wales of cause), Well done Paul and Kevin fatherhood clearly agrees with you!
