MP Stabbed at Constituency Surgery

I heard on the way home the Stephen Timms has been stabbed during a surgery in his constituency.

Whilst I may not agree with his politics it is clearly a fact that events like this force a wedge between the electorate and the politicians. If you walk to Westminster these days there is a "ring of steal" around the palace and anti-bomb barriers are everywhere. Whilst I know that the people that would try and cause harm to our politicians and institutions tend to be against our democracy it is a real tragedy that we are approaching a situation where parliament will have to be completely behind closed doors and MP's will need to stay away from the public in fear of their lives. if there is one thing we do not need is for our leaders to withdraw further into Westminster Village never to be seen again. (Well until election time anyway.)

Anyway, I Send my best wishes to Mr Timms and his family at this time and wish him a speedy recovery, after all whatever your politics I still believe that most people run for public office as they want to make this country a better place, hopefully that is what unites us all.
