Urban Fox Hunting

The web is awash with the story of a group of Urban Fox Hunters who posted a video of them savagely beating a fox to death with a cricket bat in Victoria Park, East London.

Personally I am anti-hunting, whilst I understand the need to control the fox population I find it distasteful when anyone derives enjoyment from the suffering of another animal, however I hope that even people who are pro hunt see that there is simply something wrong with these people.

Anyone who takes pleasure from the torture and battering of a defenseless animal, is only a short journey away from attacking a human, personally I hope when they catch these people they are punished to the full extent of the law, probably an ASBO banning them from battering anyone to death for 12 months.

Whaling Peace Deal Fails

Sad news has come in that the proposed "Whaling Peace Deal" has fallen through, This is a real shame for both Whales and international cooperation.

As usual all sides are blaming each other for the breakdown but I think that there is unlikely to be any end to whaling until, unfortunately, there are simply no whales left to kill.

Currently three countries; Japan, Iceland and Norway hunt around 2000 whales a year and the deal was to reduce this in return for a smaller permitted amount. This deal however pleased no one, as the Japanese and Norwegian Whalers did not want a reduced amount of whaling and the environmentalists were scared that it would start to legalise Whale hunting again.

So I guess we will simply have to continue to see scenes of Green Peace blocking Whaling ships for a few more years yet.
