Ok, Here I go again with yet another relaunch of my Blog, I tend to keep trying and failing to get any traction but have no intention to give up yet so lets go for it again.
Focus for the blog will remain the same, basically things I am interested about that people will either want to read about or not so expect the usual collection of Movie Reviews, Spurs Updates, Politics Rants and Tech updates. I will also be including things I find funny and my new passion which is High Yield Investing - Could I be any more interesting? Anyway for the next few days I will be posting and hopefully will keep going but then I have said that before.

Andrew Marr Vs The Blogosphere
Andrew Marr - BBC Political Presenter (Has the AM Show on a Sunday) has today launched a stinging attack on the many contributors on the Blogosphere, speaking at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, Mr. Marr said that Bloggers (or Citizen Journalists) are mostly "socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed, young men sitting in their mother's basements and ranting." Adding that "They are very angry people"
Now as you can imagine this has caused a bit of a backlash on the blogs as many bloggers feeling very offended have set out to attack Andrew for his views, personally it is not something I am about to do as despite Mr. Marr's assertions I am not single, living in my mother's basement or for that matter angry. There is a chance that this could be caused instead by the fact that I do not consider myself as a Citizen Journalist rather just someone who enjoys writing about stuff I care about and if someone wants to read it then that is great, but if not - oh well.
Anyway my view on this topic is that he is probably right in some of these cases, I have read a lot of blogs and many are very one sided and angry where the person has an axe to grind and they will grind it until they are left with just a stump, but on the other hand some blogs and bloggers are starting to invade the main stream Ian Dale springs to mind, this new type of journalism is responsive and exciting, blogs tend to break stories at a much greater speed than more conventional media and also operate outside many of the laws that hold our mainstream media firms back (Note I am not saying this is good, simply more exciting.) but again I agree with Mr. Marr when he states that these blogs are unlikely to replace older media companies as after all whilst blogs can be a great source, you still go to a recognised brand to get the facts.
Blogs are also often quite useful to a reporter on a deadline as I am sure most bloggers have has parts of their blogs used in print media as if they have given a quote directly to the press, it happened to me a few times whilst I was a local councillor, so I cannot help but wonder if the problem Andrew Marr has with blogs is due to a slightly embarrassing incident in which he lifted a story from a blog and finding it was less than true.

Digital Vs. Print
I read a blog entry on the blog of Deputy Council Leader Duncan Crow's Blog, His blog was about feeling old at Crawley carnival. Now this in itself did not surprise me, after all I feel to old to go to the carnival and Duncan has almost 10 years on me. (he will probably be really upset and tell me it is 5 years, but he is older than me.) What interested me was a comment he made on press coverage that he has recieved in the past.
"I take zero notice of newspapers, particularly ones that I suspect may have a professional jealousy of this blog."
I have to admit that I found this quite interesting, Blogging is a medium by which in essence we can all become reporters, but unlike the press which have to sell their product and attract advertisers we can blog about whatever we like, and more importantly don't have to cover what doesn't interest us. You will never see a blogger standing on a bridge in the rain waiting to report on a fun run going past unless he has an interest on it.
Does this make the life of a blogger preferable to the life of a reporter (Aside from the fact we don't get paid.) The fact that it only costs you your time surely means that the New Media is the most open form of discussion today, however it is also this which limits its appeal, when you pick up the New York Times or the FT you expect to recieve a certain level of reporting, a blog can be anything.
I doubt that the Crawley News are actually jelous of a blog, even though Cllr Crow's blog has a readership which extends around the globe from the US to China, can the Crawley News say the same? but I think there is areal chance that with the correct organisation Blogging could easily start to replace more traditional media. it just remains to be seen if this is a good thing.
Here is an idea, How about a newspaper of blog posts? each day you can search the previous days blog posts and then provide a compendium of blogs in print format, with a crossword and Suduku puzzle.
